Flavia is responsible for overseeing all the editorial content published daily on the Nursing Standard website and app, and its curation into our monthly print journal.

Head of audience engagement
Sarah joined Nursing Standard in 2002 as a news reporter. Since then she has held a variety of roles including news editor and deputy editor. In July 2018, Sarah was appointed head of audience engagement. She is in charge of the social media output for Nursing Standard and helps determine what nurses want to read most through the use of data.

Amanda has worked in digital media for seventeen years. At RCNi she oversees all our digital content and looks for opportunities to enhance, improve, or expand our digital portfolio.
Rachael Hannan (on maternity leave)
Rachael is a web editor at RCNi who is currently working on a variety of digital products. She joined RCNi permanently in August 2016, but has worked at the company in a freelance capacity on numerous online projects since 2010, and has witnessed the digital branch of the company grow exponentially into what it is today.
Her two decades of digital experience have given her the skills to be a solution-orientated creative editor, able to see the bigger picture to achieve strategic business goals.
When she isn’t at RCNi, you’ll find Rachael in her allotment or plowing her way through a platter of good cheese.
Gurvinder is a web editor at RCNi. She joined RCNi in October 2018, with more than 10 years’ experience in digital marketing.
Gurvinder is responsible for scheduling evidence and practice articles online, ensuring a good flow of fresh content is available for the end-user. She also maintains and updates the nurse awards site, as well as the student section of the RCNi website.
Gurvinder previously worked for a health nutrition company, where she was responsible for maintaining 50+ websites across the EMEA region. She enjoys playing table football and is an avid follower of the Indian national cricket team.
Ben is a web editor at RCNi. He identifies opportunities to maximise editorial coverage across digital platforms and deliver a high-quality, engaging online experience for readers.
Ben joined RCNi in April 2016 as the company was in the process of relaunching its digital content offer. Previously, he managed print and digital content for trade publications in the retail and legal sectors.

Senior nurse editor, Nursing Standard
Richard is a registered nurse who specialised in intensive care and cardiac nursing. He was one of a small group of nurses involved in setting up and opening in 1998 the Heart Hospital, now University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street, London. He has had a long career in higher education as a principal lecturer before working as the deputy head of school at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, and head of education and standards at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He has published widely and edited two editions of Cardiac Nursing: A Comprehensive Guide, with David Thompson, and Nurse-led Clinics: Practice Issues. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing and a doctorate in social history. He recently qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor.

Jason has extensive experience in healthcare journalism, having worked on various magazines and journals over the past 20 years. He was previously a mental health nurse.
Jason is a member of the clinical team responsible for the evidence and practice section of Nursing Standard.

Kat has more than a decade’s experience as a health journalist for titles including Nursing Standard, the Mail on Sunday, Chicago Tribune and the Birmingham Post and Mail, and has served as a contributing editor for an upcoming book on the menopause. In her role as Nursing Standard news editor, she is keen to hear about any news stories and views on nursing. In her role as interim editor of Cancer Nursing Practice, she is keen to hear about all aspects of cancer nursing, particular patient experience, careers and innovations.

John cut his journalistic teeth in the Australian outback as a newspaper reporter, covering health, crime, business and environmental issues. Now in the UK, John oversees the daily publication of news stories on the Nursing Standard website.

Stephanie is based in the north of England and has more than a decade’s experience in journalism. Steph has been a health correspondent for regional newspapers, and had her work published in publications including USA Today, Washington Times and the Observer Magazine. She has held senior positions in newsrooms, including at the British Medical Association and was twice commended by the Medical Journalists’ Association Awards. Steph recently rejoined Nursing Standard as senior news reporter and would love to hear of any story ideas.
Career development editor
Clare joined Nursing Standard in 2011 as the opinion editor. After qualifying as a nurse in 1998 she specialised in cardiology and thrombosis research, and also has a degree in sociology and social psychology. Clare is responsible for the student and careers sections of Nursing Standard and welcomes any ideas for articles from registered nurses and nursing students.
