NHS misconduct: why managers should be regulated just like staff

A proposal to establish a regulatory body for NHS managers is in consultation and could see managers banned from NHS roles for serious misconduct. Columnist and retired nurse Jane Bates says it’s about time, as some managers have not just been pointless but malign, their bullying and mismanagement affecting nursing staff, patients and the culture of the health service. An NHS manager’s role is to support clinicians, she says, and they should be officially appraised by their peers and front-line healthcare staff.
