Gambling addiction and recovery: nursing in specialist NHS clinics

A network of UK clinics is being established to tackle the growth in problem gambling – with opportunities for nurses to support people with behavioural addictions

With more people seeking help for problem gambling, new NHS clinics offer increased opportunities for nurses to work in specialist addiction services.

‘The effects of gambling addiction on people’s lives can be huge, including for their friends and families – it’s vital we try and tackle it,’ says senior mental health nurse Jack Rutter, who works at the NHS Northern Gambling Service, part of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. ‘It’s brilliant that we have NHS treatment now, and it’s expanding with more money going into it.’
