Universities suggest assessment based on competency, not hours, but some worry we may end up churning out unprepared nurses; others say it’s time for paid placements

A report by the Universities Alliance suggests more undergraduate nurses could be educated if the Nursing and Midwifery Council moved to a competency-based system, away from its requirement that students complete 2,300 clinical placement hours to qualify.
