App review: HeadMeds

★ ★ ★ ★

Recently created by YoungMinds, the UK’s children and young people's wellbeing and mental health charity, this website aims to make information about mental health medication accessible for young people. It also aims to answer questions young people may feel daunted asking their GP or family member about.

The website is accessible and easy to navigate. A variety of conditions and medications are covered and features including the Jargon Buster helps to demystify confusing terms such as 5-HT and TDS.

The ‘My Story’ section details young people’s experiences of taking medications and aims to ease any anxieties around taking medication.

The general advice section is useful, offering guidance on different medications, individual rights and issues around addiction and withdrawal. There is also a helpful contacts and resources section.
