Christine Braithwaite

What is professional regulation? And what is the responsibility of the individual nurse, employer and regulator?

These topics are covered in the latest episode of the Nursing Standard podcast, which provides a brief guide to the regulation of healthcare professionals.

Nursing Standard senior nurse editor Richard Hatchett talks to Professional Standards Authority (PSA) director of standards and policy Christine Braithwaite.

The PSA oversees ten healthcare regulators, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Medical Council, and its ultimate aim is to keep the public safe.

Ms Braithwaite covers the requirements of regulation, which include ensuring registrants are competent and of good conduct, setting and ensuring standards and maintaining public confidence.
