This year’s RCNi Nurse Awards will take place next week, with inspiring nurses from across the UK being recognised for their exceptional work.

The event, which is taking place virtually for the first time, will showcase the incredible compassion, care, bravery and innovation of extraordinary people working in the nursing profession.

Awards acknowledge nurses’ enormous contribution during COVID-19 pandemic

Our 67 finalists in categories ranging from Team of the Year to Mental Health Nursing and Commitment to Carers have been chosen from more than 700 nominees.

The presentation of the awards for all 12 categories will occur throughout the week, Monday 5 October to Thursday 8 October, starting at 6pm each evening except Thursday.

The announcements will begin with the Child Health Award at 6pm on Monday.

In addition to the 12 category winners, the RCN Nurse of the Year will be announced on the final evening, with a video premiere stream on RCNi's Facebook page from 8pm on Thursday 8 October.

The awards will acknowledge the enormous contribution of nurses during the COVID-19 global pandemic, in the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, including tributes to those who have lost their lives.

‘A chance to celebrate the achievements of nurses’

RCNi managing director Rachel Armitage says: ‘No one could have predicted just how much this really would be the Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

‘We believe the time is right to showcase the professionalism, clinical expertise and compassionate care delivered by the nursing team to patients UK-wide every day of every year.

‘The RCNi Nurse Awards 2020 are a chance to celebrate these achievements, as well as recognise nursing’s exceptional contribution to the COVID-19 response and those who have lost their lives.’

The diverse list of finalists includes a nurse who saved a fellow passenger’s life on a long-haul flight when he went into cardiac arrest, a nurse who drew on her own childhood experience of sleeping rough to support homeless people, and a team that has set up a dedicated support wing for prisoners with learning difficulties and autism.
