Centenary service at York Minster

A special service has been held at York Minster to mark 100 years of the RCN.

It was attended by civic and nursing leaders, including RCN general secretary Janet Davies.

The banner of the RCN was displayed in the minster during the service conducted by the Bishop of Beverley on Tuesday, 13 September.

Members of the Townswomen’s Guild presented the RCN with the handmade marching banner earlier this year.

Vintage design

The inspiration for the design came from a picture in the RCN archives from the 1930s, painted by an unknown member.

The banner has been touring the country at centenary events throughout the year.
