She was pronounced dead at the scene. West Yorkshire Police confirmed they are treating her death as murder.

Officers are appealing for information to help trace her husband Mark Barrott, who was last seen almost 400 miles away in Elgin, north east Scotland.

A spokesperson for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said Ms Barrott’s friends and colleagues are in shock.

‘It is with great sadness that we have heard about the sudden and unexpected passing of Eileen Barrott,’ said the spokesperson.

‘She will be sadly missed by all her friends and colleagues across the trust.’

Ms Barrott worked as a staff nurse in a number of departments at the trust since joining the organisation in 1996.

‘This has been a shock to her colleagues and we’re doing all we can to support them at this difficult time,’ added the trust spokesperson.

West Yorkshire Police have been working with Police Scotland to trace Mr Barrott after he travelled to Edinburgh by train on Sunday, before going on to Aberdeen and later, Elgin.
