A theatre recovery nurse is set to travel to work in style from now on after having a tram named in her honour.

A Nottingham tram now bears the name Aprille Jones in recognition of her being named Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust’s nurse of the year.

Ms Jones came from the Philippines to the UK in 2001 and now works at the Queen's Medical Centre.

She attended a ceremony at Nottingham Express Transit Depot last week to see her namesake tram unveiled.

Continuing the tradition

The vehicle previously carried the name of Kim Helm, a paediatric transplant clinical nurse, for a year.

Helm won the trust's nurse of the year award in 2015.

‘All my friends and family say they will be proud to ride a tram with my name on it,' Ms Jones said.

‘I'd just like to thank everyone who voted for me in the awards, and all my colleagues for being such a great team.’

Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust chief nurse Mandie Sunderland said: ‘Aprille is an inspiration to nurses who join the trust from overseas, as well as a compassionate and valued member of our theatres recovery team.’
