Norwich nurse Kate Barmby will be making her TV debut tonight as a contestant on hit show The Great British Bake Off.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust acute respiratory ward nurse will be putting her culinary skills to the test in the opening episode alongside 11 other contestants.

Instant friends

Ms Barmby, 37, tweeted a picture of herself with her fellow bakers, saying: ‘If someone was going to write a recipe for instant friends this would be the ingredients #GBBO2016’

She also received a good luck tweet from the RCN, which read: ‘Good luck to @NNUH nurse @katebarmby who stars in Great @BritishBakeOff tonight on BBC One. #TeamKateBake #GBBO’

Other hospitals also showed their support, including Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which simply tweeted: ‘Good luck from MKUH’.

The new series of Bake Off starts tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
