Queen’s nurses to enjoy royal garden party

Queen’s nurses are to enjoy a special day of celebration in June following a gift of £2,500 from The Patron’s Fund charity.

The charity acknowledges the work of the voluntary organisations for which the Queen is patron, and was set up to mark her 90th birthday.

A group of 12 nurses from the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) joined a special patron’s lunch event on the Mall in London to mark the milestone last year.

QNI chief executive Crystal Oldman said the donation will be used ‘for a special purpose, bringing together working and retired Queen’s nurses for a day of celebration’, which will be held in the Queen’s garden at Frogmore in Windsor.

‘Her Majesty is generously opening Frogmore to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme, a charity with which the QNI has a valued and shared heritage, and it is a fitting venue for generations of nurses to come together, to recognise the long careers of service of our retired nurses, and to inspire the next generation.’

The QNI, which was set up in 1887 with funds generated from Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee, runs courses for community and primary care nurses, offers support and influences health policy.
