Children can experience nursing throughout the ages at the Florence Nightingale Museum’s new Nightingale Nurse family corner.

The museum hopes to inspire the next generation of nurses through its new interactive exhibit, which highlights nursing’s past as well as the many roles modern nursing offers today.

The family corner, which opens at the London museum next month, will offer children the chance to try on nursing uniforms, spot the difference between today’s hosptials and those Florence Nightingale worked in during the Crimean War, as well as watch a short film about her life.

‘Young visitors will be the nurses of the future’

Museum director David Green said the aim is for children to engage with the story of Florence Nightingale and the world of nursing.

‘Young visitors are really important as they will be the nurses of the future,’ he said.

Mr Green said the contributions to the family corner of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and the Nightingale Fellowship had helped to demonstrate the many career choices available in nursing.

The museum is also planning other events as part of celebrations for the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
