RCN members on Jersey have voted to seek a ballot for industrial action over fair pay.

Members agreed at a meeting on Wednesday to ask the RCN South East regional board, which covers the Channel Islands, to consider making a formal application to the college's council for the right to ballot on industrial action.

The move follows their rejection of the ‘final’ pay offer from the States of Jersey government earlier this week.

'Clear message that nurses have had enough'

RCN South East regional director Lindsay Meeks said: ‘Members wanted to send a clear message to the States that they had had enough and urged them to make the mediation talks meaningful,’ she said.

The RCN regional board will have five working days to discuss the Jersey branch’s application.

A spokesperson for Jersey's States Employment Board said earlier this week that it was disappointed with nurses’ rejection of the deal and was considering the implications.
