A six year old’s dream to become a nurse came one step closer to reality when her nurses arranged for her to receive a mini nursing uniform.

Nahla Walker has scarring on her lungs and receives treatment through a port-a-cath device, which administers medication directly into her body through a tube.

She regularly sees nurses from Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust to check the device is working.

Nurses ordered a special community nursing outfit

When Nahla told her community nurses Joanne Leivesley and Helen Drury that she wanted to be a nurse when she is older, they ordered a special outfit so she could dress like them.

Now she wears a small sized community nurse T-shirt and special name badge that says ‘nurse in training’.

Nahla has also featured in a short video from the trust encouraging people to consider a career in nursing.

Watch: Work for us, I want to be a nurse

‘She wants to make people feel better, just as her nurses do’

Her mother Zoe Walker said: 'Nahla loves her nurses and says she wants to be just like them when she’s older because she wants to make other people better, just like they make her feel better.'

The trust’s children’s care group director Christina Harrison said: 'Our nurses are fabulous and it shows how well they do their jobs – they clearly inspire our young patients to be just like them.

'We can’t wait to welcome Nahla into our employment – although she will have to wait at least 12 years.’
