A campaign has been launched to help nurses and midwives avoid being taken off the Nursing and Midwifery Council register because of late fee payments.

A campaign has been launched to help nurses and midwives avoid being taken off the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register because of late fee payments.

April is the peak time for nurses and midwives to renew their NMC registration. It can take up to six weeks for staff to gain readmission if they are taken off the register and they cannot practise during this time.

The NMC, backed by the RCN, Royal College of Midwives and Unison, has produced a short animated video to remind nurses and midwives of the different ways they can pay their registration fee to avoid lapsing from the register.

The annual registration fee was increased in 2015 from 100 to 120. It can be paid in full or spread over four quarterly payments throughout the year.

The annual registration fee was increased in 2015 from £100 to £120. It can be paid in full or spread over four quarterly payments throughout the year. As of March, only 7.3% of the total NMC register had chosen to pay in instalments.

The NMC suggests that the best way to avoid late payment and lapsing from the register is to pay by direct debit.
