Previously unseen images of nursing through the decades feature in a new calendar marking the Queens Nursing Institutes 130th anniversary.

The 2017 calendar celebrates the founding of the QNI in 1887, and showcases the work of generations of Queens Nurses since that time.

Pictures from the past

It is illustrated with photographs of nurses from the Victorian and Edwardian eras, through the early decades of the NHS, and up to the present day.

The calendar includes a photograph of 70 Queens Nurses visiting the Queens garden at Frogmore House in Windsor earlier this year. This visit celebrated the QNIs founding of the National Gardens Scheme in 1927, which opened private gardens to the public to raise money for community nursing.

QNI chief executive Crystal Oldman said: ‘Nursing has an amazing heritage and we want to celebrate and share this with the nurses of today.

‘These photographs of previous generations of nurses – some of them previously unpublished – remind us of the history and achievements of our profession. They are also an inspiration for the future.’
