Thinking of leaving the NHS – what you should do first
An RCN survey revealed 45% of nursing staff are considering leaving their NHS job. Reasons for leaving include feeling undervalued, exhausted and under intense pressure. Many seek work outside the health service, plan to work overseas (30,901 nurses have applied for certificates for practising overseas since 2018-19) or take up another role in the NHS. Managers and employers can help staff feel more wanted and improve staff retention by improving the working culture, being more flexible, listening and valuing employees
