This is a landmark month for the nursing profession. As this publication hits your desk, the first cohort of nurses will have successfully completed revalidation.

The move away from prep to the new system of reregistration has caused nurses and midwives months of uncertainty. For many of them, remaining on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register has seemed like a daunting task.

According to the NMC, the first nurses to submit their applications found that revalidation was ‘straightforward, achievable and powerful’, and that the NMC’s resources and information were vital in guiding them through.

This month’s edition features a range of articles on revalidation to help demystify the process for those of you who have yet to tackle it, or to act as confirmers or appraisers.

Alison Finch explores how nurse managers can support and help their staff through the reflective process, which is a key part of revalidation. Paul Edwards describes how independent provider Bupa UK has embedded revalidation in its services.

There have also been changes here at RCNi. Editor Nick Lipley has been seconded to a commissioning role for six months, so I will be editing Nursing Management in his stead.
