Improvements to the foot wound care service at my trust have caused a reduction in the number of necessary amputations being carried out.
Three major amputations were avoided within the first six weeks of them being put in place last November. This is a bonus for patients and clinical practice alike.
Many – but by no means all – of our patients are over 50 and most do not have diabetes. Throughout the pandemic we noticed an increase in serious incidents relating to pressure ulcers on the foot.
