Abstract

My role is varied and includes providing education for band 5 to 7 nurses, running teaching programmes, implementing new initiatives and recruitment. I have been in the role since 2009 and was an intensive care sister before.

My job keeps me busy, but I volunteered for the revalidation pilot at my NHS trust because I feel revalidation is essential to maintain the professionalism of nurses. My NHS trust is one of 19 sites piloting the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) system, which is expected to start in April.

Revalidation can ensure that all nurses have access to learning and development that helps to keep them up to date with evidence-based practice.
