Learning disability nurse given OBE

A learning disability nurse consultant spoke of her pride at collecting an OBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. 

South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust nurse Gwen Moulster collected her award for services to nursing and people with learning disabilities, at an investiture ceremony that also honoured singer Rod Stewart.

The honour caps off an impressive year for Ms Moulster, who was part of the team that won the Learning Disability Nursing Award at the RCNi Nurse Awards earlier this year.

The group won after they developed a health equalities framework to improve healthy life expectancy of those with learning disabilities.

Ms Moulster, who is also co-chair of the UK Learning Disability Network, said: ‘Receiving an OBE is a huge honour but I have only been able to achieve what I have because of the people I have worked with.

‘I am grateful to have found a career that offers so much fulfilment, and I consider it a privilege to have been able to work with people with a learning disability.’
