Frank L Cole Associate Professor of Nursing, Division Head of Emergency Care, Emergency Nurse Practitioner Education, The University of Texas, Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing;

Frank L Cole and Cynthia Abel discuss their research in nurses’ attitudes towards AIDS in the emergency department

Despite recent advancements in treatment for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and AIDS continue to seek care in emergency departments (EDs) either for HIV related problems or other medical conditions. Yet little research related to HIV or AIDS has been done from an emergency department perspective.
