Potentially useful for seasoned professionals and students alike, this comprehensive book comes in at over 300 impressive pages that are full to the brim of accessible explanations of mental health disorders in children and young people.

The tone of the book is easy to engage with, and gives the reader a feeling that the author has a vast amount of knowledge and insight into what is a complex and wide-ranging speciality.

Having acknowledged the authors credentials I am usually wary about texts books that are ‘complete’, but it appears that everything is in place and where it should be.

The chapters include the major disorders of anxiety, bipolar, depression, schizophrenia, substance misuse and eating disorders. The author appears to have ensured that no mental health stone is left unturned.

For the seasoned professional there are the typical medical evaluations, diagnoses and treatments that prompt quick and inspired clinical decisions in team meetings.

Even after all of these years I am pleased to see that I can still be impressed by a book engaging in topics I first read about almost 40 years ago. It is comprehensive, accessible and displays an impressive understanding of the disorders it discusses.
