Emergency department crowding
This is a summary of the peer-reviewed article: Exploring the effects of emergency department crowding on emergency nurses by Amy Webster and Julie McGarry. The article reports the findings of a literature review that explored the effects of emergency department (ED) crowding (also called overcrowding) on emergency nurses. Crowding, which has been defined as ‘when the demands on an ED exceed the capacity of the department, and hospital or health system, to meet them’, has been widely explored in the literature, but there are relatively few studies of the subject from an emergency nurse perspective
