A senior district nurse has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Lincoln for her contribution to nursing.

Candice Pellett was recognised for her outstanding contribution to nursing.

Queen's Nurse Candice Pellett received a honorary doctor of science award at a ceremony in Lincoln last week.

No stranger to recognition, Ms Pellett was made an OBE for services to nursing and health care in 2014. In the same year, she also received the Queen Mother's Award for Outstanding Service from the Queen's Nursing Institute (QNI).

Special connection

Ms Pellett, transition project manager at the QNI, said she was delighted to receive the honorary doctorate.

‘I have had special links with the university for many years, as a clinical educator in district nursing working in Lincolnshire and mentoring their pre-registration nursing students on district nursing placements,’ she said.

‘The district nurse is a highly skilled clinician, who has expertise in delivering and co-ordinating care to people in the community with complex healthcare needs, illness and disability, and who provides palliative and end of life care.

‘Therefore, I am very proud to be recognised for making an “outstanding contribution to nursing”, both in my role as an experienced district nurse and in my work as a project manager with the QNI.’
