Yellow fever vaccination: the importance of taking a cardiac surgery history considers the topic from the perspective of taking a detailed cardiac surgery history. While the vaccination is generally well tolerated, it is associated with two serious adverse events unique to it, namely yellow fever vaccine-associated neurologic disease and yellow fever vaccine-associated viscerotropic disease.

Those at risk include people who may have undergone incidental thymectomy during cardiac surgery, hence the reason for taking a thorough medical history as part of a pre-vaccination risk assessment.
