With more than 500 pages full to the brim with accessible explanations of mental health disorders, this is a comprehensive book will be useful for experts and students alike.

Its easy-to-read and engaging tone will assure readers that its author has vast knowledge and insight into what is a complex and wide-ranging speciality.

Having acknowledged the author’s credentials I am usually a little wary about textbooks claiming to be ‘complete’, but it appears everything is in place and where it should be.

The chapters include all of those you would expect in a book of this type, including the major disorders of anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, substance misuse and eating disorders.

The book leaves nothing to chance and ensures no mental health stone is left unturned. For the seasoned professional, there are the typical medical evaluations, and diagnosis and treatment courses of action. After all these years, I’m pleased that I can still be impressed by a book engaging in topics I first read about almost 40 years ago.

To sum this book up in a few words I would say it is comprehensive, accessible and comforting in its appreciation of the distressing disorders it works through.
