This book is a must for any nurse interested in the political agenda and its effect on the NHS and nursing. It is well written and easy to follow, sharing many thoughts on how policy and politics are influencing the struggles faced by all NHS organisations.

The second edition includes information on recent national policy changes such as the Five Year Forward View, which is discussed in detail.

The conclusions at the end of each chapter help to clarify and underline the issues. In a time of continuing austerity measures and rapid healthcare change, this is appropriate reading for all nurses to help them understand the reasons for change.

In particular, nurses in leadership roles should read this book to assist with future planning and gain an understanding of the complex system in which we work.

While I would encourage individual nurses to purchase this book, it would also make an ideal library reference.
