After nearly 15 years as consultant editor for Cancer Nursing Practice, it is time to step down and hand over the role to another expert in cancer nursing. This role has been an absolute privilege, working with Jennifer Sprinks and the team to develop content that meets the needs of its readers.

What I love most about Cancer Nursing Practice is that it is a professional journal aimed at clinical nurses working in oncology and those with an interest in caring for people with cancer. Working in a rapidly developing field of practice means that you need to keep up to date with current advances in cancer treatments, their mode of action, benefits and toxicities, while considering the potential impact on patients and their families.

‘Whether you are working in general oncology or a specialist area, irrespective of your role, we would like to encourage you all to consider writing for publication and will support you to do this’

Cancer Nursing Practice enables you to do that by providing critical content that is appropriate, comprehensive and easy to read, which is an enjoyable contrast to some of the more academic journals. Editorial board members are also involved in ensuring the clinical content covers a wide range of conditions, clinical topics and different areas of practice.

Contact us if you feel Cancer Nursing Practice is not meeting your professional needs

However, we also welcome suggestions from readers to make sure that we are meeting your needs, so please contact Jennifer if there are aspects that you would like to see in the journal.

Whether you are working in general oncology or a specialist area, irrespective of your role, we would like to encourage you all to consider writing for publication and will support you to do this. Please let us know if you have undertaken any research, audits or service evaluations and would like to share your work with others by publishing your findings. In addition to the personal satisfaction, this will also help enhance your CV and your future career prospects.

As 2024 draws to a close, I would like to wish you all the best for 2025. I hope that you stay passionate about cancer nursing, provide support for each other in practice, and continue to provide the best quality of care for people with cancer.
