Get paid to teach fellow students: internships in nurse education
Paid internships offer a chance to gain teaching qualifications and coaching and mentoring skills – and open students’ eyes to academic career possibilities
Paid internships – whether for just a few weeks or as long as a year – are giving nursing students invaluable experience and also opening their eyes to the possibility of a career in academia.
‘Traditionally it’s older people who end up in nurse education, but we need to recruit those who are younger,’ says Liz Charalambous, assistant professor at the University of Nottingham. ‘We need bright young things coming through to turbocharge our profession. They have energy, drive and enthusiasm – you can’t put a price tag on that.’
