Accountability for the administration of medicines lies with registered nurses. But as a student giving medication under supervision, you have responsibilities too.

Medicines optimisation nurse Matt Griffiths says students need to take time on medicines rounds to learn procedures, how to use the British National Formulary (BNF) and how to work within local policies.

‘And they need to learn about medicines storage and security, and practise administration methods,’ he says.
