The use of clinical simulation to educate nurses is on the rise. During the pandemic, it was vital in helping students make up placement hours as the NHS grappled with the crisis.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) granted special dispensation to allow 300 of the 2,300 placement hours to be in a simulated environment. Universities and other education providers have subsequently been permitted to apply to increase this to 600, with 17 having done so.
