Senior healthcare assistant, St Joseph’s Hospice
Colleagues and patients concur that Sharon creates a positive environment with her infectious enthusiasm and extremely high standards of patient care. They speak of her warmth and compassion, and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Sharon’s managers say she picks up on concerns about patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs, noticing any tell-tale patterns and feeding back when they are in pain. For her ‘the little things are the big things’, whether it is making someone a cup of tea, helping with manicures or trimming a patient’s hair.
On her days off Sharon completed a course in massage, which she now offers to patients, and she works with the complementary therapies team in the neurological support group.
Her care extends to her hospice colleagues, acting as a mentor to new staff and being ready with a listening ear and advice.
