Queen's Nursing Institute launches new practice standards for district nurses

The Queen’s Nursing Institute and Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland have consulted nursing experts to develop new standards for district nursing practice and education

The Queen’s Nursing Institute and Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland have published new standards for high quality practice and education for district nurses.

The measures are designed to complement Nursing and Midwifery Council standards, which have not been updated since 1994.

Nursing experts across the UK have been consulted in putting together the standards, which include sections on clinical care, leadership and management, learning, and research.

Organisations consulted include Public Health England, the Department of Health and the Association of District Nurse Educators.

QNI chief executive Crystal Oldman said: ‘These voluntary standards for district nurse education and practice clearly place the specialist profession of district nursing at the centre of community health care.’

The QNI is launching the standards at its annual conference in London today.

They will be published in the news sections of both www.qni.org.uk and www.qnis.org.uk on Tuesday (September 29) morning.
