I had a seven-week placement in general practice last year. I enjoyed this setting so much that I am aiming to become a general practice nurse (GPN).
There is a long-held myth that newly registered nurses cannot enter general practice on qualifying but this is not the case. In fact, there has been a real drive in recent years to encourage nurses new to the register to consider primary care as a first destination role, as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan.
