Children’s nurse Ricky Baker shares his student journey and offers advice on how to respond if you fail an assignment and where to access support

Completing a nursing course is a major challenge and for many students there will be academically difficult times.

Here Ricky Baker shares his own experiences of struggling at different points during his children’s nursing degre course and how he tackled these problems.

What support is available to students who are struggling?

Universities do offer students support and accessing this at the right time is critical to overcoming these hurdles, says Mr Baker, who is now a registered children’s nurse.

The video offers a firsthand account of the ups and downs that can occur during a nursing course and offers advice on:

  • How to cope and respond after failing an assignment.
  • Who can provide academic support and how to access this help.
  • The often difficult emotions that can come with a challenging period at university.

Mr Baker also describes how he sought more indepth support via his university and how this led to his diagnosis with dyspraxia.
