Columnist for Learning Disability Practice journal Wendy Johnson

Ms Johnson, a matron in a general hospital, writes about caring for her grown-up daughter Rachael, who has autism.

Her ‘Planet Rachael’ column charts the highs and lows of Rachael’s care and interaction with the world around her.

Told with humour and compassion, the column offers great insights for nurses, and other healthcare staff caring for people with a learning disability.

Senior editor at RCNi Gary Bell said: ‘This is a richly deserved nomination for a columnist who poses important questions about how readers can better serve a group of people whose needs are diverse and complicated.’

Editor of Learning Disability Practice Colin Parish said: 'Wendy has an important message and her voice comes through clearly in her columns every month - witty, intelligent and heart-warming.'

The award winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on July 9.
