Reflective practice CPD series

Reflection is a crucial way to assess what we know, what we do and therefore who we are. Professionally, it helps us review the effectiveness of our skills and how we apply them in practice, so we can improve the care we provide. Personally, it can help us be more mindful of others and more resilient.

Unsurprisingly, reflection is central to professional revalidation.

To help senior nurses and members of the teams they lead, Nursing Management has been working with head of health sciences at the University of Surrey, England, Melaine Coward to publish a six-part continuing professional development series considering the role of nurse managers in supporting reflection for professional learning.

The series is wide ranging so that, for example, part one is aimed at enabling readers to consider the role of reflection in nursing and relate this to the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s professional requirements while part two explores approaches to and benefits of reflection for self-development.
