Key points from this CPD webinar:
- Generic information is of little use to patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), they want specific information about their cancer to take away with them
- Patients report that a TNBC diagnosis is often talked about as a 'worst case scenario', and that this negativity outweighs the facts around successful treatment
- The language used by healthcare professionals about TNBC can cause extra stress and panic among people. For example, using the term 'aggressive' leaves little room for hope among patients
- The need to hang on to hope is important for people undergoing treatment
- People with TNBC want to be able to meet others with the same type of cancer to share their experiences and support each other
- Patients are willing to know more about trials and are keen to participate
- New treatments are emerging, and clinical trials and research are under way

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for approximately 10-15% of all breast cancers. It differs from other types of breast cancer in ways that can alter the patient experience and the typical prognosis. By increasing awareness of TNBC and the voice of patients with a TNBC diagnosis, this webinar aims to empower nurses to transform patient care in a powerful and practical way.
This webinar will provide nursing staff with an essential guide to TNBC, building on a series of roundtables taking place across the country that seek to gain greater understanding of the patient experience.
This webinar took place on Thursday 7 March 2024.
