A drive is under way to shift care from hospitals to community settings. This is occurring at a time when many experienced practice nurses are retiring. Developing nursing student placements in general practice is encouraging more nurses to choose practice nursing as their career. This article discusses a sustainable strategy to maintain and increase general practice placements that contribute to workforce planning. It considers the challenges and benefits of nursing student placements to all concerned.
