Why you should publish with RCNi

RCNi produces 11 leading nursing journals supporting nursing students and registered nurses to deliver the best possible patient care.

RCNi journals

Nursing Standard and RCNi’s specialist nursing journals have a policy of continuous online publishing: accepted articles are published online as soon as the editing process is complete.

We welcome submissions on a variety of subjects from experienced and new authors including clinical topics, original research, literature reviews, service innovation or continuing professional development articles. We welcome shorter opinion articles too.

Here we look at the benefits of writing for us.

Online publishing

Nurses are increasingly looking for quick access to relevant information online so we are adopting a policy of continuous online publishing.

This means we will publish all accepted articles online as soon as the editing process is complete. Your published article will have a unique digital object identifier (DOI) number, which makes it easy to track and reference.

This online version will now be the ‘version of record’: the final, most up to date and authoritative version of the article that other authors, students and researchers should cite. And of course it is visible and shareable as soon it is online.

‘Personalisation’ of RCNi journal websites is being introduced in April 2018 to allow us to highlight your article to subscribers based on their browsing history. Subscribers will also be able to save your article as a favourite so they can find it more easily when they return to the website.

All our journals will also offer subscribers daily personalised e-alerts from April 2018 that will again highlight your article to those readers most likely to find it of interest.

Our websites already provide a range of metrics to allow you to see who is viewing your article.

While not all accepted articles are published in print, subscribers can download a PDF of the article from the website.

Our articles are also more shareable than ever, with subscribers able to access ten free articles a month online from any other journal we publish.

Author support

Our experienced editorial and administration teams ensure that your article is handled professionally from time of acceptance to time of publication. The editors and production staff work closely with you to maximise the impact of your article. If you have never had a paper published before, don’t worry – writing for one of our publications is not as difficult as it may seem and you will receive guidance and support. We have created a number of useful, downloadable resources and examples that will help to guide you through the process from start to finish.

Impact

Each of our journals is read by thousands of nursing students and registered nurses. We have more than 100,000 subscribers across all of our titles, accessing content online as well as in print. Our articles are discoverable through a range of abstracting and indexing services, which means that your article will have a real impact on nursing practice and patient care. Writing for us is one of the best and quickest ways of sharing your knowledge with the nursing community.

We also deliver a range of daily and weekly emails to our entire subscriber and registered user database, an audience of more than 100,000 nurses nationwide. The alerts consist of up-to-date content from across our journals and can feature your published article. Your article will also be promoted through a range of RCNi social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Independent peer review

Our journals operate a thorough peer-review process using a panel of expert reviewers. Reviewers’ comments are fed back in a constructive way to ensure your experience with us is as rewarding as possible. This means your article has credibility with our readers and other nursing professionals.

Online submissions

You can use our online submission system to track the progress of your article through the review process. Help for new users is available from our administration department.
