The NHS will have to meet new equality standards

NHS England’s equality and diversity council took the courageous decision in July 2014 to consult on a national workforce race equality standard for the NHS.

Many equality initiatives have been tried and tested, but all have been discretionary, and none has had the desired effect of ensuring we have an NHS which is representative of the population it serves at all levels.

The equality standard is designed to support organisations to understand where they are in terms of race equality, and to actively work towards improving the environment for all members of staff, regardless of background.
