Summary

Are you a website editor looking for a change? Do you have skills that are currently being under-used and feel the time is right to branch out and take on a bright new challenge?

RCNi is seeking an assistant web editor to work on its digital offering.

The role entails supporting the web editor in every aspect of online publishing as we grow in digital prominence. We currently use two different platforms to merge and manage content via XML feeds and manual page creation. A keen eye for detail is imperative as you will be checking, investigating and fixing XML and HTML code errors as well as publishing content.

The assistant web editor role is very much at the heart of our company as you will be working with every department – editorial, production, product development, marketing and sales – to ensure the company is represented in the best possible way for our online readers.

About us

Our mobile responsive website went live in March 2015 and, following a successful launch, we were named the Digital Brand of the Year 2015 at the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) digital awards.

In 2016 we launched nine new websites for personal subscribers under the RCNi.com platform, in addition to our ten websites for institutional subscribers. We also launched the RCNi Portfolio, helping nurses with revalidation, and RCNi Learning, our range of RCN accredited online interactive training modules.

In 2017 we are upgrading our digital offering by improving our content platforms and introducing new and exciting digital products.

This is an excellent time to join the company and be part of our digital future.

About you

You will be competent, confident, friendly, and willing to work in a team as well as shine as an individual. Project manager experience in content migration would be a bonus and creativity would be a plus, especially with identifying new ways to improve our online content.

You will know coding and understand the difference between HTML and XML. You will also have experience of using analytics and SEO for reporting and to make sure the most valuable content is where the reader expects to find it. It would be a benefit if you have experience of working with UGC, whether in a moderated environment or an open forum.

You will have IA and UX knowledge and know how to appraise a website for navigation and consistency. You will be competent in Photoshop and have a visual flair with colour and layout.

Although this isn’t primarily a writing role, you will have good command of the written word and know how to make online communications clear and friendly within our brand style.
