Abstract

Although I discuss aspects of spirituality with patients, I am unsure whether I understand the concept fully. That is why reading the CPD article on spirituality was particularly useful.

I care for patients with a range of life-altering conditions in an outpatients department and spend time with people who attend plastic, vascular, dermatology and oncology clinics. Many patients have issues with their changing body image and physical abilities.

Opportunities arise to discuss their feelings and how they may have been affected financially, socially, psychologically and physically by their condition. Often we make reference to their spiritual needs.
