RCNi’s open access options

RCNi offers two widely recognised and complementary routes to OA.

Gold

Our ‘gold’ option usually requires payment of an article processing charge. This is to cover the costs of production, such as administration, editing, layout and marketing, that are usually paid for by readers’ subscription fees.

Authors can approach research funders or institutions for help paying article processing charges. There are also waivers or fee reductions available in some circumstances; see our frequently asked questions for more information.

Under our gold option, your article is published in the print journal that only subscribers receive, but access to the online version is free to anyone.

RCNi currently publishes OA articles under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commerical license (CC BY-NC.4.0) unless a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY 4.0) is required by your funder.

Green

This allows you to archive the ‘accepted’ version of your article on your institutional or funder’s repository free of charge.

The ‘accepted’ version of your article is the version that has been through peer review but has not yet been edited or designed by the RCNi editorial and production teams.

It must be made clear that the author’s manuscript is not the version of record (that is the final, published version) and a link must be provided to the final version on the journal website. The journal and RCNi should be given the correct attributions.
