Editor

Flavia has more than 15 years' experience as a health journalist, writing for newspapers and specialist publications aimed at the public, patients, nurses and doctors.

Flavia is responsible for overseeing all the editorial content published daily on the Nursing Standard website and app, and its curation into our monthly print journal.

An award-winning journalist, she was twice a judge on the prestigious Women in the City awards (healthcare category) and enjoys meeting and networking with frontline NHS staff and health leaders. She would love to hear from you on any of the ways below.

Dr Richard Hatchett

Senior nurse editor, Nursing Standard

Richard is a registered nurse who specialised in intensive care and cardiac nursing. He was one of a small group of nurses involved in setting up and opening in 1998 the Heart Hospital, now University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street, London. He has had a long career in higher education as a principal lecturer before working as the deputy head of school at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, and head of education and standards at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He has published widely and edited two editions of Cardiac Nursing: A Comprehensive Guide, with David Thompson, and Nurse-led Clinics: Practice Issues. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing and a doctorate in social history. He recently qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor.

Tanya Fernandes

Evidence and practice editor

Tanya has worked in healthcare publishing for over 14 years, commissioning, editing and publishing high-quality clinical and educational content aimed at promoting lifelong learning, professional development, excellence in care and improved patient outcomes.

Clare-LomasClare Lomas

Career development editor

A former nurse, Clare joined Nursing Standard in 2011 as the opinion editor. After qualifying in 1998 she specialised in cardiac nursing and thrombosis research, and also has a degree in sociology and social psychology. Clare is responsible for the careers content of all RCNi journals and also heads up our student product, NS Student. She is always keen to hear from new authors, both nursing students and registered nurses, so please do get in touch with your ideas.
