Sophie has worked as a journalist specialising in healthcare for more than 20 years. Sophie joined what is now RCNi in 2010, as assistant editor of its specialist nursing titles. She became editor of Nursing Managment journal in 2020.

Jennifer Sprinks

Editor

Jennifer has worked as a journalist for more than 15 years for a range of national and trade titles, including The Independent, The Guardian and the Local Government Chronicle. She joined RCNi more than seven years ago as a news reporter for Nursing Standard magazine.

Before taking up this post, she worked as a freelance journalist and communications consultant. She was also the media manager for the think tank, the Local Government Information Unit. Jennifer has a wealth of experience in news and feature writing, editing, press release writing and creating communications strategies. She is also experienced in events management, public speaking and conducting research for organisations.

She has a bachelor of science degree in European Union studies from Cardiff University and a master of science degree in Development Studies from London South Bank University, as well as a London School of Communications postgraduate qualification in periodical journalism. She speaks French, Spanish and Japanese and enjoys dance, reading, travel and music. Jennifer is also editor of Cancer Nursing Practice.

Barry QuinnBarry Quinn

Consultant editor

Barry has worked for more than 33 years in healthcare, in hospitals and hospices and in the community sector in England and Ireland, and is a senior lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast. Much of his work has been in senior leadership and management roles in the UK but also at a European level, his teaching commitments include preparing nurses for leadership and management roles.

Barry holds a master's degree in health science from the University of Manchester and a postgraduate teaching certificate from the University of West London and has completed a doctorate at King's College London. He has completed the senior leadership programme through the King's Fund and undertaken a Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care fellowship.

Alongside his clinical and teaching commitments, Barry is an invited speaker at international conferences and has published on a wide range of healthcare issues through peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He is particularly interested in leadership, new models of integrated care and a more person-centred approach to care and treatment. He has delivered workshops to multiprofessional teams, exploring resilience and the emotional impact of working in healthcare. His doctoral thesis explored the importance of engaging with the personal story of living with advanced illness.

Barry has been a consultant editor and editorial board member for a number of journals including Nursing Management and Cancer Nursing Practice for many years and continues to review articles for international journals. He currently chairs a number of expert groups, including the United Kingdom Oral Management in Cancer Group, the European Oral Care in Cancer Group and Managing Advanced Cancer Pain Together, and is a nursing ambassador for the Eurasian Haematology Oncology Society.

Julie has been a journalist for more than 30 years, many of which have been spent in nursing journalism as a reporter, writer and editor. As the editor of Primary Health Care, she has overseen the growth and development of the journal in championing the work of nurses across all community and primary care settings. She is also the managing editor of Nurse Researcher, the RCNi’s quarterly international research methodology journal and commissioning editor for Mental Health Practice and Nursing Management.
