Dating apps and a rise in sexual assaults
In 2016, the National Crime Agency identified a significant increase in reports of serious sexual assaults involving people to meet through dating apps.
Barts Health NHS Trust lead sexual health nurse Ms Bennett tells Nursing Standard podcast that dating app users often believe they have established trust over a sustained online conversation.
This can result in them letting their guard down more readily when they meet the individual in person, she explains.
Ms Bennett offers advice on safe consensual sex, guarding drinks to prevent them being spiking, and safe places to meet new people. She explains the best approach to talking to patients with sexual health concerns.
This podcast episode also features an interview with King’s College Hospital, London alcohol and substance misuse clinical nurse specialist Ian Webzell.
