A mental health trust is seeking to employ hundreds of new nurses as part of a major recruitment campaign fronted by staff.

London trust seeks local people to join its workforce

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust’s Someone Like Me campaign aims to recruit more than 400 local people to a variety of roles amid increasing demand for its services.

The north London trust is seeking nurses at all levels to fill 170 vacancies across mental health, learning disability, adult and children’s nursing, plus 90 registered nurse jobs in the community.

The trust provides mental health and community services to a population of more than 1 million people in one of the most diverse areas of the country.

The campaign, which has a focus on reflecting that diversity, features videos of staff sharing their experiences of working at the organisation. They include newly qualified nurse Sancha Bernard, who talks about her role working on a specialist unit for adults with eating disorders and the trust’s preceptorship programme.

Head of nursing for Enfield Community Services Helen Mehra, talks about the importance of employing local people. ‘It is important that we have a sense of belonging and being local means that you’re from the area, you participate in what’s going on locally and you have an investment in the services that are provided,’ she says.

‘We’re looking for commitment, we’re looking for people that are innovative and are dedicated to the NHS and to caring for all our patients.’

Trust’s chief nurse pledges support to new recruits

The campaign comes as trusts across the country seek to address nursing shortages, with mental health nursing a particular area of concern.

Trust chief nurse Amanda Pithouse said: ‘I started my career as a healthcare assistant and can promise that whatever area of nursing you wish to work in, and no matter what your current role is, I will do everything I can to support you in your career and to make sure your time with us is rewarding

‘I joined Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust four years ago and have found it one of the most caring and supportive trusts I have ever worked for, with fantastic colleagues and wonderful development opportunities.’
